Part of me is dreading this too though. I think every mom does on their first trip away from their husbands and kids. It doesn't matter if it's for business or pleasure. And we all know the reason why.
Dads and kids go C-R-A-Z-Y while mom is away.
I don't know why. I don't know how bad. But there are a few things that I KNOW without a doubt will happen while I'm gone.
1 - Dessert will suddenly become a main food group. I know it. He knows it. And the kids are ever so excited for it. Don't eat all your dinner? Have a cookie. Run out of bananas for breakfast? Here are some M&M's. There is going to be a three day sugar rush on those kids.
3 - Vegetables will disappear from plates... because they weren't there to begin with. I'm the only one in the family, besides my own mom, that enforces the "one vegetable for lunch and dinner" rule at mealtimes. Everyone else seems to think going days without vegetables is an okay thing. I've been stuffing TONS of fruits and veggies into my kids in some vain attempt to have them last all weekend. I don't think it will, but hey, can't blame a mom for trying.
4 - Video games will be played in excess. Not by the kids either. Kyle loves playing video games. Chase loves to (think) playing video games. Skylar loves to have the boys play video games so she can go exploring by herself. I have just come to accept the video games will at least keep the boys out of trouble.
5 - My house will be a mess when I get home. Laundry will be piled up, toys will be hidden everywhere, the kids will be in mismatched clothes, there will be sticky fingerprints everywhere! Is it kind of sick that I'm looking forward to it?
I trust Kyle and his parents to keep at least decent track of the kids and the trouble they get into. I'm not worried about anyone dying or being forgotten anywhere. I know my kids will be fine and Kyle will enjoy the extra time he gets to have with them.
In all honest, I'm more worried about Kyle. I'm hoping HE makes it the whole weekend! Those two kids will blindside you.
And you don't know the meaning of being kicked while you are down unless you have two kids in cahoots with each other.
Best of luck Kyle! I won't judge if you start drinking early!
