Everyone spends the month, this week, and at least Thursday sharing with others what they are thankful for. And while I still wanted to share those things, I wanted to look at it differently. I wanted to sit and think about why I was thankful for these things. I wanted to find a new angle as to why I'm thankful for the things in my life.
Today, I'm thankful for being a mom. And not because of the typical reasons of I love my kids, they make me better, the complete me mumbo jumbo. It's all true. But that's not why I'm really really thankful I'm a mom.
2 - I get to buy all those cute little kid clothes! Yup. I have a shopping for little kid addiction. And now it's finally being put to good use! My kids are always adorable and well dressed. I'm lucky if I remember to get out of my sweat pants.
3 - Disney. Oh my gosh the Disney. I love Disney movies! Frozen, Tangled, Dumbo, Peter Pan, Mulan, Bambi, the list is endless. Now I don't have to be ashamed of my addiction. I get to blame it on my kids. I know every word to all the songs? My kids listen to the soundtracks in the car. I randomly start quoting Disney movies in conversation? My kids watched that movie yesterday. I want to watch Tarzan? That's Chase's favorite movie (that one is true, btw). I saw Big Hero 6 in the theater? I need to make sure my kids would enjoy it before I buy it. Don't worry about the fact that I'd been desperately wanted to see it for months now.
4 - I get to feel no shame in eating Pop-Tarts, Lucky Charms, mac and cheese, PB&J, and gummy bears with my kids. Sometimes they get to have a treat or mommy is just too plain tired to cook. Quesadillas for everyone! Sometimes we are too busy to actually eat, so I get leftovers of the kids snacks or the crust from their sandwich. I'm eating less while still eating the good stuff! Everyone wins.
5 - I have the perfect reason to stay up a bit later than normal. And this is my favorite one. Every night, about 10pm, I sneak into Chase's room. I just stand by his crib and watch him dream for a moment before I pull his blanket back over him. I get to see the crazy positions he gets into, the cute faces he makes, and I get to just appreciate how quiet he is for a moment. Because he is never quiet. But he is just too plain sweet when he's passed out cold and drooling from the corner of his mouth. After tucking him in, I tip-toe out and go back into my bedroom. Skylar still sleeps in our bedroom. I walk over to her crib and cover her back up with the blanket. Seeing my precious angels sleep is the best reason to stay up late. And it's one of the best parts of my day. I didn't know it was until I had kids either.
There are a hundred other reasons why I love being a mom. There are probably thousands. But these are probably some of my top reasons. They are the best, the silliest, and the coolest parts about being a mom.
What is your favorite part about being a mom or dad?
