Dear Mr. President-Elect

Dear Mr. President-Elect,

You have been voted into office. Most of the country, and world for that matter, is in shock. Even over a week later. People are in awe on how you made it this far. What seemed like a joke or a hoax has become a dismaying reality.

As someone who lives in this country, I had a few things that I wanted to ask of you during you're term as leader of this country.

First, please stop the hate. The world already has plenty of that in it. You ran on a campaign that made fun of those with disabilities, created violence towards several groups of people, and basically slandered anyone who is not like you. There have been beatings in the streets, vandalized homes, and now families are worried they will be torn apart based on statements you've made on the campaign trail. It has to end. You got where you wanted to be in the worst of ways. It's time to stop spewing hate everywhere you go.

Second, I'll be upfront, I'm worried about the world I'm raising my kids in. Now I'm even more worried for them, but in particular my daughter. The man you just made you're Chief Strategist has a proven record of hate towards women. He also has a very firm stance on mental illness being able to literally be spanked out of children. You also have a group of people that are against same sex marriages going into your cabinet. Women were a minority before. Dear God, what will happen to us now? Is my daughter doomed to be raised hiding who she is? Will she be able to love who she wants to love? Will she have to hide a mental illness that is a genetic case in my family? Will she be able to make her own decisions in anything? Or will she have to get clearance from a man? Please, please, please let my daughter grow up in a world where she doesn't have to hide who she is. I hope neither of my children feel they have to hide, but being as my son is a white male, he'll fair much better in a country under your jurisdiction than my daughter, or even me.

Lastly, please get your shit together. You're campaign stood upon hate and racism. You vowed to deport millions of families and tear them apart. You promised to dissolve ObamaCare and cut funding to programs like Planned Parenthood. You swore to build a wall on the southern boarder. And now, since being elected, stories are starting to change. In some areas, you do not have the authority to make those kinds of decisions or execute those types of actions. In interviews, you're now speaking of keeping parts of programs like ObamaCare that could be beneficial to particular groups of people. You spoke of tax cuts, but once again, the ones who will benefit the most will be the wealthy, like yourself. You're continually flipping sides, backtracking on things you've said, or, get this, claimed that if it's "on the internet, it's true." You have no desire to fact check anything or take responsibility for what you've said or done. And that's terrifying. Knowing that people like Putin are calling you directly is horrifying.

So what does all this mean? It means I'm going to stand up for what I believe in, and it's not you. I hope you'll prove me wrong. I hope you get all your shit together and realize what you've just taken on. That you start to understand the gravity of the situation and make the best decisions for all of us. But until you've given me reason to believe that that's a possibility, I will fight. I will fight for who I am, what I deserve in this world, the futures of my children, the happiness of my sister and her girlfriend, my friends who live alternative lifestyles, and those you seek to destroy because they aren't like you.

And thank God we all aren't.

Sincerely,

Kristen "Maniac Mom" Riedel
